Fashion lights up the city with events and presentations.
It happens also at Senato Hotel Milano,
in collaboration with the National Chamber of Italian Fashion (Camera Nazionale della Moda.)
The origins of Fashion Week
The beginning of Milan Fashion Week was around the late 1950s.
Then, the Roman catwalks and the Italian fashion started to gain importance,
also promoted by the famous Fellini's films and Milan was the perfect place
to make the Fashion Week happen.
It was between the 70s and 80s that Milan was consecrated as a city of Fashion, like Paris, London and New York.
Thanks to three great stylists, nicknamed "the three Gs": Giorgio Armani, who achieved consecration by dressing Richard Gere in American Gigolò, Gianfranco Ferré and Gianni Versace, a young visionary from Calabria and, a little later, the inventor of an international phenomenon, the top model. But the " Milano da Bere" (Milan to be drank), the 80's yuppy historical moment, also sees Krizia grow, witnesses the creative birth of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana , and later on the genius of Franco Moschino.
Nowadays the "Ago, Filo e Nodo" (Needle, Thread and Knot) sculpture in Piazzale Cadorna, is artist Claes Oldenburg's homage
to Milanese industriousness and, above all, to its vision of Fashion.
